Ethiopia: UK Companies Desirous of Backing Nation's Green Economy Development

UK companies expressed their readiness to transfer technology to Ethiopia in its effort to build green economy development. Prime Minister Hailemariam Dessalegn on Friday held discussion with UK delegation led by the UK Energy and Climate Change Minister, Greg Barker.

The Minister said his country would closely work with the Ethiopian government in its plan to build carbon free economy by the year 2025. He noted UK companies had reputable experience in developing renewable energy resource including wind, geothermal and solar sources.

Ethiopia has immense renewable energy resources and is the leading country in Eastern Africa to launch green economic development, Mr. Barker added.

Prime Minister Hailemariam also said UK companies have ample opportunities to take part in the country's green economy development endeavor. He noted government was ready to facilitate ways for the UK companies to participate in the sector. The delegation also met with the Ministry of Finance and Economic Development and the Federal Environmental Protection Authority.
