Zambia: 5 Murder Cases in 3 Days

POLICE have recorded five murder cases around the country in the last three days while three people have died in separate road accidents.

Deputy Zambia Police Service public relations officer Charity Chanda who confirmed the developments said the incidents happened between October 6 and October 8, 2012.

In the same period, police recorded two defilement cases and one arson case.

In Northern Province, police discovered a body of an unidentified man believed to be aged between 20 and 25 years and suspected to have been killed around October 6 and October 7.

The body was discovered at Chambeshi Market popularly known as Location Market in Mwamba District in Kasama.

Ms Chanda said the victim appeared to have been severely beaten as he sustained a swollen face and was discovered without a shirt.

His body is in Kasama General Hospital awaiting postmortem.

Ms Chanda appealed to members of the public who may have lost a relative within Kasama to go and identify the body or report to any nearest police station.

In Central Province, police in Kabwe have launched a manhunt for Kelvin Hipatendi who shot and wounded Sebastian Hamulumbe on suspicion that he was flirting with his wife.

Hikapande attempted to kill Mr Sebastian Hamulube, 39 of Kapiri Mposhi using a shot gun.

The incident occurred on October 7, 2012 around 15:00 hours in Chief Chipepo's area and Mr Hamulube sustained four bullet wounds on the right thigh.

Central Province deputy police chief Nelson Phiri said the incident happened yesterday in Mulembeka Village in Kapiri Mposhi and that a short gun was used.

Mr Phiri said Mr Hamulumbe was admitted to Kabwe General Hospital where he was nursing serious gunshot wounds.

In Western Province, police recorded a road traffic accident where one person died on the spot after he fell off from a moving motor vehicle.

This occurred on October 6, 2012 around 23:00 hours at Looma area along Mongu - Lusaka Road.

The accident happened when the unidentified man aged between 20 and 25 fell off from a moving vehicle which was heading to an unknown direction.

The body is in Lewanika General Hospital mortuary awaiting postmortem.
