West Africa: UN Chief Appoints Special Envoy for Sahel Crisis

United Nations Secretary General Ban Ki-moon appointed former Italian Prime Minister Romano Prodi as his new special envoy on the Sahel crisis, UN spokesperson Martin Nesirky announced on Tuesday (October 9th).

Prodi will coordinate UN efforts to develop and implement an integrated regional strategy for the Sahel. He will also conduct wide-ranging consultations with countries in the region, as well as regional and sub-regional bodies and other international partners, the UN News Centre reported.
