Egypt: Platform of Popular Current in Tahrir Destroyed

Some protesters destroyed the platform of the popular current in Cairo's Tahrir Square, al-Jazeera Mubasher channel reported on Friday.

Video footage showed the destroyed platform amid thousands of protesters in the square on the "Friday of Accountability".

The aim of the Friday protest is to demand justice for the revolution's martyrs and realize the revolution's goals.

Clashes erupted earlier in the square between supporters and opponents of President Mohamed Mursi. The two sides used sticks and hurled stones at each other which resulted in a number of injuries.

The main platform in the square is currently controlled by protesters chanting "Freedom .. Justice .. Mursi has men to back him."

The clashes began when opponents of Mursi chanted slogans such as "Down with the rule of Mursi" on a platform erected in Tahrir Square.

This prompted Muslim Brotherhood protesters who support Mursi to beat them and hurl stones and bottles at them.
