Tanzania: Less Powers for the Minister of Information - Katiba

Mufindi — THE idea that justice is dispensed by the courts of law is currently negated by powers granted to the Minister for Information to ban publications.

"The new Constitution should stipulate that if any publication or electronic medium commits an offence it should not be banned by the minister," said Ali Masebo, a resident of Nyololo Ward in Mufindi district on Friday. He said that the new Constitution should not allow for an independent candidate in presidential and parliamentary races, since the party manifestos are the ones which hold the candidates accountable.
