Transport, Communications and Infrastructure Development Minister Nicholas Goche is leading the Zimbabwean delegation to the International Telecommunication Union Telecom World Conference in Dubai which began yesterday and ends on Wednesday. Key discussions and debates on major global telecommunications issues such as convergence, cyber security, the global growth of the telecoms sector and other critical issues are set to take centre stage.
Zimbabwean telecommunications operators TelOne, Econet, NetOne, Telecel and Liquid Telecoms are exhibiting. The operators are all housed in the Zimbabwe Exhibition Pavilion.
The operators were co-ordinated by the Postal and Telecommunications Regulatory Authority of Zimbabwe on behalf of the Government.
The exhibition is set to be a platform for all represented telecoms operators from Zimbabwe to network, seek strategic partnerships and investment opportunities within the growing industry of telecommunications.
The telecommunications industry has played a significant role in the development of Zimbabwe's economy by providing key communication backbone and user services.
The exhibition is expected to provide growth insights into what can be done to further develop the industry.
Said NetOne brand manager Mr Rutendo Chabururuka: "This exhibition will give us growth insights into what else we could do to further develop Zimbabwe's industry.
"This exhibition unites all Zimbabwean telecommunications operators to advance the Zimbabwean ICT agenda at an international platform to showcase what the Zimbabwean industry has to offer."
He added that it also offers a platform to build strategic partnerships.
The International Telecommunications Union is the world governing body for telecommunications operators and is a United Nations- mandated organisation.
