Tunisia: President Marzouki Visits African Leader Patrice Lumumba's Widow

Kinshasa — Caretaker President Moncef Marzouki went on Sunday morning, escorted by Congolese Prime Minister Matata Ponyo, to the house of African leader Patrice Lumumba to meet his widow and son.

The latter said, in a statement to TAP news agency, that he was very moved by this visit through which the President of the Republic wanted to "remind of the role Lumumba played in his youth for the liberation of Africa"

The Congolese Premier hailed, for his part, the initiative of President Marzouki to call on the African leader's widow.

Patrice Lumumba, born July 2, 1925 in Onalua, Belgian Congo, and executed on January 17, 1961, is a Congolese independence leader who helped win independence from Belgium and served as Prime Minister from June to September 1960.
