Tanzania: Poachers Form Cross Border Links

Arusha — AN ill-intentioned alliance has been formed among wildlife poachers and illegal forest loggers currently wrecking havoc around Mount Kilimanjaro in Moshi, in close association with their suspected counterparts at Amboseli National Park in neighbouring Kenya.

The Conservator-in-charge at Kilimanjaro National Park, Mr Erasto Lufungulo said the law-breaking-network known to extend the Arusha and Kilimanjaro National Parks, Amboseli and Tsavo Game Park in Kenya, has established a sophisticated links to avoid the authorities.Conservator Lufungulo was speaking here during an incident in which an illegally owned elephant rifle was impounded from a 'farmer' in the wilderness section of Nakilongosi area of Kamwanga Village in Longido district of Arusha.
