Bamako — Chairperson of the African Union Commission, Dr.Nkosazana Dlamini Zuma will on Friday, 19 October 2012, lead an African Union Commission delegation to the meeting of the Support and Follow-up Group meeting on Mali, scheduled for Bamako.
The Support and Follow-up Group meeting is organised by the African Union in consultation with the UN and Ecowas and is expected to be addressed by Acting President of the Malian Transitional Authority Dioncounda Traore, Prime Minister Cheick Modibo Diarra, Jan Elias UN Deputy Secretary General and representatives of the of the UN Security Council.
The meeting will provide all role-players- at national, regional and international levelsan opportunity to assess the current political situation in Mali with a view to helping the people of Mali to find a solution to current challenges facing their country.
The meeting will also consider the AU's Draft Strategic Concept paper, developed in consultation with Ecowas, the EU and the UN and the core countries (Algeria, Mauritania, Niger and Burkina Faso) before it is submitted to the UN Security Council.
The visit to Mali by Dr. Dlamini Zuma is her first official engagement since her assumption of office as the Chairperson of the African Union Commission, following the hand-over ceremony held on Monday 15 October 2012 in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
