Kismayo, Somalia — A double explosion rocked an allied forces posting in the port city of Kismayo in the early hours of Monday, Garowe Online reports.
Two explosions hit before dawn Monday, one targeting an allied force posting in the newly liberated city of Kismayo.
The other was in close proximity of the first explosion and authorities believe that both explosions are from hand-grenades thrown by Al Shabaab insurgents.
Kismayo authorities haven't disclosed the casualties from the explosions.
However, local sources told GO that there were no civilian casualties in the explosions and a few officers' sustained injuries from the attacks.
In similar news, Afmadow located 120 KMs west of Kismayo, was hit with artillery early Monday injuring at least 5 civilians in Afmadow located in the Lower Jubba region.
According to government authorities, in the early hours of Monday as residents in Afmadow were sleeping, the city was hit with heavy artillery hitting a residential neighborhood.
Authorities in Afmadow held Al Shabaab responsible for the bombings.
Pro Al Shabaab websites stated that Al Shabaab insurgents blew up a Kenyan and Somali military posting in Afmadow.
Afmadow was a crucial district captured by allied forces in June, a major defeat for the Al Shabaab who 3 months later lost Kismayo their last major stronghold in southern Somalia.
