Last week's African ministers' pledge to speed up access and use of 13 life-saving commodities for women and children by 2015 was momentous, bringing good news for families and the people of Uganda, for whom the maternal death decline has been slow.
The landmark decision was made on October 16, at the first ministerial meeting of the UN Commission on Life-Saving Commodities, held in Abuja, Nigeria, taking on the challenge of the UN Secretary General's Global Strategy on Women's and Children's Health.
