Kenya: Italian Gold Medalist on Charity Trip to Kenya

Italian double gold medalist, Elisa Di Francisca who arrived in Kenya on October 14 has been visiting various charity projects run by Italian NGO, Intervita.

Elisa who is a foil fencer is campaigning on humanitarian issues for Intervita, which manages education and health projects in Nyanza. She started her trip from Manga and has been travelling back to Nairobi visiting various areas like Kericho and Narok.

Her trip will culminate in Kibera and Kawangware today. The 2012 Summer Olympics gold medalist blogged about her various visits, which saw her, donate donated medicine to children in Narok to combat worms.

She described the experience in her blog. She wrote: "I do not think I will ever forget the faces of these children, their hands, their smiles! I was literally overwhelmed by their enthusiasm to know me."

She also got to meet Charles Asati the multiple gold medalist in the 4x400 m relay. Intervita aims to provide better education, water supply and hygiene for the communities they work in as well as a provide a means to eke out a living.
