In an official statement by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Friday 26/10/2012, Egypt called on Israel to immediately halt all construction works in East Jerusalem and the West Bank at large under any pretext, because this act is threatening security and stability of the region and undermines efforts to achieve a just and lasting peace.

The statement said that Egypt is following up with deep concern the continued Israeli expansion in building settlements in the occupied Palestinian territories, especially East Jerusalem. It added that construction of these settlements, in all shapes and sizes, represents a violation of international law and resolutions of international legitimacy.

The Egyptian ambassador to Israel conveyed a message of this content to the Israeli foreign ministry.
