Three aides of Governor Danbaba Suntai, who were involved in a plane crash with the governor, were yesterday moved to the National Hospital, Abuja.

The Taraba State governor was evacuated to an undisclosed hospital in Germany almost 24 hours after he was brought to the National Hospital.

Sources had disclosed to LEADERSHIP that the aides were not receiving the best of care at the Federal Medical Centre, Yola, and that, as a result, their conditions had been deteriorating. They had to be moved quickly to the National Hospital in Abuja Sunday evening.

They were conveyed from the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport to the hospital with ambulances belonging to the hospital followed by a very long security convoy blowing sirens at about 6:40pm.

The convoy beat the very long queue of vehicles at the Kuje intersection military checkpoint, even as many motorists and pedestrians initially believed it was the usual presidential convoy that plies the road.

According to sources, the governor's aides de camp (ADC), Dasat Iliya, was lying unconscious at the Yola hospital while the chief detail to the governor, Joel Dan, had a fractured arm. His chief security officer (CSO) Timo Dangana's two legs, sources said, had been badly damaged.

Meanwhile, the state government has, in a statement issued by the chief press secretary to the governor, Hassan Mijinyawa, said it was not true that the aides of the governor had been abandoned They were only given time to stabilise before they could be moved to the National Hospital, he said.

Part of the statement reads: "At the time the governor was transferred to the National Hospital in Abuja, the ADC Dasat Iliya was to go with the governor but doctors advised that his condition was more critical than that of Governor Suntai and therefore needed more time in Yola to stabilize. Now that he has stabilized, he has been transferred to Abuja en route to Germany.

"The chief detail, Joel Dan, was not badly hurt. In fact, he walked himself to the aircraft when they were airlifted to Abuja. The CSO, Tino Dangana, only got his legs dislocated and therefore was in high spirit when he left Yola airport. In fact, CSO Dangana and chief detail Dan would be taken back to Jalingo as soon as there is improvement in their cases."

According to the statement, Governor Suntai's personal physician, Dr. Ahmed Kara, confirmed that the duo of Dangana and Dan were certified to be taken back to Jalingo after some days in Abuja.

It disclosed that the government and people of Taraba State were immensely grateful to the people of Adamawa State for the concerns, prayers and involvement in the evacuation of the victims from the crash site to the hospitals.

It noted that Governor Nyako was personally at hand from the beginning, adding that the Nigerian Air Force also offered its aircraft for the evacuation.
