THE Zambian traditional family is besieged by numerous challenges to the extent that there is a sense of helplessness and hopelessness to families.

The family is like a rock in a stream of social, political, economic and technological change: Divorce, children on drugs and parents who don't care, AIDS on the rampage, unemployment, poverty, out-of-wedlock births, domestic violence, child abuse, alcoholism, disappearance of the male figure in families, etc.
