Kenya: ODM Official Killed by Unknown Gunmen

Muhoroni MP Ayiecho Olweny led demonstrators through the streets of Kisumu following the murder of politician Shem Onyango Kwega.

Kisumu — Kisumu parliamentary aspirant Shem Onyango Kwega has died from injuries sustained in an early morning shooting. His wife who was also injured in the incident is currently in the intensive care unit at the Aga Khan hospital.

The parliamentary aspirant and his wife were shot along Robert Ouko Road in Kisumu by unknown assailants this morning. Kwega was reportedly on his way to the bank when the incident occurred.

The shooting has triggered riots in Kisumu as residents decry the lack of police response to the rising insecurity in the area. Police have however urged residents to remain clam as they investigate the incident.
