Eritrea: Dams in Halhal Sub-Zone Provide Impetus to Irrigation Farming

Halhal — The inhabitants of Halhal sub-zone said that the dams in the locality have provided impetus to irrigation farming. They further indicated that water resources have been enriched as the dams have impounded ample amount of water during the rainy season.

Among the inhabitants, Mr. Mensour Ibrahim, Mr. Idris Mohammed Fikak and Mr. Osman Hamd explained that Mai-Kilim Dam has secured adequate water for human, livestock and irrigational supply. They further pointed out that they are in a position to improve their livelihood on the basis of fruits and vegetable farming, the scope of which is reportedly on the rise vis-à-vis farmers' experience.

Mr. Girmatsion Abraha, Administrator of Halhal sub-zone, disclosed that small-scale coffee plantations there are also in good state.
