Tanzania: Zanzibar to Have New Face Under Plan in Offing

Zanzibar — ZANZIBAR government has seen the need to provide a lead in ensuring that it main town is able to meet the challenges it faces over the next years. It is anticipated that the historical town will face challenges.

Currently Zanzibar main town is under pressure, and other towns in the islands are unplanned with shortage of water, poor solid waste management and sub-national government administration, as explained by Mr Ghalib Awadhi, architecture from Zanzibar Urban Services Project (ZUSP). Awadhi said here at a kick start meeting with stakeholders including local leaders (councillors) and community leaders (Shehas) that the Government has decided to implement towns' development project financed by a loan from the World Bank.
