Nigeria: Otukpo Multipurpose Dam to Be Completed 2014

Makurdi — The construction of the Otukpo multipurpose dam in Benue State will be completed in 2014, Director of Dams in the Federal Ministry of Water Resources, Emmanuel Adanu has said.

He gave the assurance when the delegation of the National Good Governance Tour visited the project site.Adanu said the dam will supply portable water to Ado, Ohimini and Otukpo Local Government Areas when completed.

In his remarks, Information Minister Labaran Maku said the project is one of the many dams being constructed across the country by the Federal Government.

He urged the contractor to expedite work on the site in order to meet the stipulated deadline.

The contract was awarded in 2010 at a cost of N17 billion.

It has a reservoir capacity of about 100 million cubic meters of water and will have a hydro power plant that will generate 3.3 mega watts of electricity upon completion.
