Kenya: Farmers Welcome Miwani Sugar Revival

THE Kenya Sugar Cane Growers Association has welcomed the planned revival of Miwani Sugar Company. In a statement signed by the KESGA secretary general Samuel Anyango, the association said the revival is a milestone and will go a long way in uplifting the lives of cane growers in the area.

"We ask the Cabinet to approve the plan to revive the miller to save us from abject poverty," said Anyango. The Parliamentary Committee on Agriculture, Livestock and Co-operatives approved a Sh11 billion investment by South Africa-based Eaglefin Structured Finance Mauritius Ltd to revive the miller, which collapsed 11 years ago.
