Equatorial Guinea booked their place in the semis of the 8th African Women Championship (AWC) 2012 finals after smashing hard fighting DR Congo 6-0 in a Group A played on Wednesday at the Malabo Stadium.
The winners had to wait till 25th minute to open the scoring when Captain Genoveva Anonman got the first of her hat trick. She outpaced two defenders inside the 18 meter area before unleashing a volley past goalie Stephanie Mbo. Congolese defender Bwadi Mwalutshe scored in her own net in the 39th minute in a bid to clear cross ball from right flank.
Second half started with a good pace whereas DR Congo fought to reduce the margin while hosts were determined to increase the tally. However, Equatorial Guinea managed to add two quick goals in the 63rd and 66th minutes scored by Gloria Chinasa and Anonman respectively.
Captain Anonman scored her third goal of the match in the 73rd minute through a spot kick after Congolese defender Judith Tondo handled the ball in the penalty area. Referee Christine Ziga from Ghana cautioned the defender for the offence.
Equatorial Guinea who won both their matches played so far sealed their victory four minutes from time when striker Jade Boho managed to maneuver in the opponent's goal area and unleash a low shot that left goalie Stephanie Mbo helplessly.
In the early match at the same venue, South Africa 'Banyana Banyana' defeated Senegal 1-0. Striker Mgcoyi Andisiwe scored the lone goal that gave South Africa three points in the 70th minute when she utilized a good pass from Vilakazi Nothando within the box.
Equatorial Guinea will complete group fixture on Saturday against Senegal who have lost twice in as many matches so far while DR Congo dates South Africa the same day to determine the team that joins hosts from Group A for the semis to be played on 7th of November.
