Tanzania: Serengeti Airport Gets Green Light

Mara — THE Tanzania Civil Aviation Authority (TCAA) has Okayed the construction of an international airport in Mugumu town of Serengeti District, Mara Region.

Serengeti District Council Chairman Mr John Ng'oina has confirmed the latest reports over the much awaited project with the 'Sunday News'.

"We have just got information from TCAA this morning that they have received permission for the construction of the airport and this is good news to Serengeti people and Mara in general," Mr Ng'oina said on Thursday.

Late last month TCAA sent experts to verify a plot allocated for the construction of the airport in the new ward of Uwanja wa Ndege, on the outskirts of Mugumu town centre. "The permission is a clear testimony that the area that we have allocated is fit for construction of the international airport", he said.

The council he said is waiting for permission from the National Environmental Management Council (NEMC) before the actual construction really starts.
