Egypt: Foreign Minister in Cyprus to Recover Smuggled Money

Foreign Minister Mohamed Kamel Amr met in Nicosia Friday 02/11/2012 with Cypriot President Dimitris Christo Fias and Foreign Minister Erato Kozahou Marcoullis.

Foreign Ministry Spokesman Amr Rushdy said the Egyptian-Cypriot talks focused on developing bilateral relations.

Rushdy said the Cypriot president underlined the depth of bilateral relations. The Cypriot president received an invitation from President Mohamed Morsi to visit Egypt.

Amr invited the speaker of the Cypriot House of Representatives to visit Egypt following the People's Assembly's elections.

The Minister discussed with the Cypriot officials means of bolstering cooperation in the fields of energy and gas. The talks also touched on activating an agreement on creating exclusive economic zones between the two countries which was concluded in 2003.

The Spokesman said the Minister discussed the issue of recovering the Egyptian smuggled money adding that Egypt is giving much significance to this issue.

He noted that an agreement was reached on more efforts by Cyprus in the EU to amend the agreement on recovering stolen Egyptian funds.
