Steadily, the camp of economy players rooting for the retention of autonomy by the Central Bank of Nigeria has continued to swell with the Organised Private Sector warning that tampering with the independence of the apex bank would be counterproductive, reports Festus Akanbi

The debate stirred by the current attempt by the National Assembly to remove the autonomy of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) again returned to the centre stage of national discourse last week with analysts including members of the Organised Private Sector and the leadership of the apex bank insisting that the current trends in the global financial market favour independence of the central bank.
