Sierra Leone: Man Remanded for Assaulting Police Officer

Magistrate Komba Kamanda of Court No. 2 yesterday remanded one Fuad Turay for allegedly assaulting a police officer at Blue House, Wellington.

The accused was docked on two counts of assault on police contrary to Section 39 of the Police Act No.7 of 1964, and unlawful possession of cannabis sativa which is also contrary to Section 8(a) of the National Drug Act No.10 of 2008.

According to the particulars of offence, the accused on Monday October 22 at Blue House, Wellington assaulted police constable 4451 Koroma C.

Police prosecutor Sgt. S. Conteh told the court that the accused was on the same date also found in possession of eleven (11) packs of cannabis sativa.

In his ruling, Magistrate Kamanda denied the accused bail on the ground that the matter before him is a very serious one and that the accused will interfere with the prosecution witnesses if he was granted bail.

The matter was adjourned to November 9, 2012 for the prosecution to open its case.
