Kenya: Insecurity Upsets Kisumu's Tourism - Official

Insecurity and the threat posed by al Shabaab are hurting tourism in Kisumu. Ministry of tourism officer-in-charge of western tourism circuit Henry Ndubi said the electioneering period has heightened the tension in the sector. He was speaking at a security meeting in Kisumu on Saturday.

The meeting was convened by Tourism ministry and security agents to find a solution to the escalating insecurity in the town. The hoteliers said the insecurity and unrest have cost them in terms of business leading to poor performance.

Officers from the anti terrorism police unit educated the hoteliers on basic safety measures and how to detect terrorist threats. They called on the hoteliers to use of the Closed Circuit Television Cameras to spot terrorists.
