Rwanda: Lawmakers Commend King Faisal Hospital for Improvement in Management

Appearing before the parliament's public accounts committee, the managing staff of King Faisal Hospital (KFH) was commended for the measure taken to get the once 'insolvent' hospital back on track.

The King Faisal Hospital was among the Auditor general's reports (2009, 2010, 2011) highlighted institutions. The country's 'best' hospital was accused of a Rwf 88 Million debt to Rwanda Revenue Authority (RRA), Rwf 84 Million from debtors, a Rwf 389 million loss from contracts missing between the hospital and contractors (this include penalties) considered as waste for expenditures, non-compliance to procurement procedures (not giving procurement copies to Rwanda Public Procurement Authority-RPPA) with a value of 15,330 euro and $ 122,669 all without any supporting documents, Rwf 3 billion loss from suppliers who were procured the market without competition, Rwf 202 million debts to partners (insurance companies -Rwanda Social security Board), Rwf 339 million (long dated amount from debtors not yet got back), and Rwf 1bn loss due to expired drugs found in the hospital's drugs store.
