The road to the chair of the most powerful political leader in the world - the president of the United States of America - passes through a rough terrain of mountains and valleys.

For 500 days, President Barack Obama and his Republican Party challenger, Mitt Romney, mercilessly pummeled each other. A tougher and rougher political slugfest is hard to find anywhere else in the world. By means politically fair and foul, they sought to win the endorsement of their fellow Americans through the ballot box. It is the struggle for national service but it is also perhaps more importantly, the struggle for power, naked political power.
