Kenya: Americans Freed By Court

An American couple accused of running a children's home illegally in Nyahururu town were on Tuesday afternoon acquitted by a Nakuru court.

Daniel William Shaw and Kenia Yamira Shaw had been charged with working in Kenya without a permit. They were accused of committing the offence on August 21 in Nyahururu town, Laikipia county.

The couple was accused of running and working at the Moriah Children's Home in Nyahururu town without permits thereby contravening the Immigration Act.

The prosecution had alleged that immigration officers from Nakuru had visited the home where the Americans introduced themselves as managers of the home. However, principal magistrate John Njoroge said the prosecution failed to prove the allegation.
