Tanzania: Call to Improve Service Provision in Mtwara

ENDOWED with vast natural resources including minerals and natural gas, residents of Mtwara and other southern regions deserve better social services to make them realize benefits of the resources.

Nominated MP, Mr James Mbatia (NCCR-Mageuzi) put the challenge to the government during a supplementary question, noting that Mtwara is yet to fully benefit from the resources.

Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister's Office (Regional Administration and Local Government), Mr Aggrey Mwanri agreed with the suggestion put forward by the MP, noting that the government has been working round the clock to improve social amenities not only in Mtwara Region but also in all regions.

In a basic question earlier, Nanyumbu MP Dunstan Mkapa (CCM) wanted to know when the government would upgrade Mikangaula dispensary to a health centre, as pledged by the government.

During a tour in the region in 2011, President Jakaya Kikwete directed authorities to ensure that the dispensary is upgraded to expand its capability of offering health services to the people.
