Pretoria — A lecture on the restructuring of the Angolan Armed Forces (FAA), held last Wednesday in Pretoria, marked the start of a series of activities programmed by the Angolan Embassy in South Africa to mark the festivities of the 37th anniversary of Angola's independence, to be marked on November 11.

In opening the event, the ambassador to South Africa, Josefina Pitra Diakite, said that with the achievement of effective peace in 2002, the Angolan Armed Forces have adjusted themselves to the country's new reality and, currently, combine their task of defending the country's national sovereignty with the challenges of demining and reconstruction.

The activity, whose lecturer was the general Manuel Luís Neto "Kassapa", head of the planning and organisation department of the General Staff, also served to celebrate the 21st foundation anniversary of the Angolan Armed Forces (FAA), marked on 9 October.

On his turn, the representative of South Africa's Armed Forces, major general L. Yam, manifested his satisfaction and admiration at the level of organization of the Angolan Armed Forces, having added that the military co-operation between both countries is on the right path.

The lecture was attended by ambassadors and defence attachés to South Africa, as well as by this country's military officials.
