Gambia: Ebo Town Resident Arraigned for Assaulting Police Officer, Others

One Seedy Conteh, a resident of Ebo Town was on Wednesday, October 31st 2012 arraigned at the Bundung Magistrates' Court presided over by Magistrate Edward Singhateh. The accused is charged with three counts of the criminal offences; ranging from threatening violence, to common assault and assaulting a police officer, all contrary to the Laws of The Gambia.

The particulars of the offence on count one stated that on 23rd October 2012 at Ebo Town in the Kanifing Municipality, the accused broke a bottle, intent to injure one Lamin Sonko.

Count two stated that on the same date and place the accused assaulted one Yama Conteh by hitting her with a frozen bottle of water on her head. While Count three stated that on the same date and place the accused assaulted one Ebrima Sanneh, a police officer, by kicking him on his foot in the due execution of his duty, thereby committed an offence.

The accused however pleaded not guilty on the charges leveled against him and the prosecutor handling the case, Corporal 4367 Njie applied for a short adjournment to call his witnesses in court at the next adjourned date.

Meanwhile the accused was granted bail in the sum of D7, 000 with two Gambian sureties.
