A 63-year-old woman died yesterday in the intensive care unit of the Windhoek Central Hospital after she was attacked and robbed at her home in Keetmanshoop’s Noordhoek residential area on Tuesday morning.
Police Deputy Commissioner Rudolf Isaak identified the deceased as Alta Thirion.
Isaak said it is suspected that unknown assailant, who is still at large, struck Thirion on the head with a blunt object and left her to die on the kitchen floor before making off with a laptop computer and a cellphone. The blow fractured her skull.
Isaak could not say how the assailant had gained entrance into Thirion’s house.
According to Isaak, Thirion always remained behind locked doors when her daughter and son-in-law, with whom she lived, left for work.
Isaak said Thirion was found unconscious on the kitchen floor by a family member who went to the house to collect a book.
An ambulance rushed Thirion to the Windhoek Central State Hospital, where she died yesterday.
