Kenya: KTB Plans Rift Valley, Western Tourism Boost

The Kenya Tourism Board is developing measures to improve tourism in Rift Valley and Western Kenya.

Speaking at a Tourism Expo in Eldoret last week, KTB regional marketing manager Alex Tunoi said the board will market the region's tourism sites to increase visitors.

He said peaceful elections will improve tourism in Kenya. "We must work for a peaceful Kenya even as we head to the polls. Tourists will not come if they are not sure of their safety," Tunoi said.

Eldoret mayor William Rono said they are working with KTB to tap sports tourism. "We have a very rich tourism menu in this region but it remains unexploited," Rono said.

Sports minister Ababu Namwamba said the government will build three stadiums in Eldoret, Iten and Baringo to attract international athletes.

Kenya Wildlife Service director William Kiprono pledged to restock game reserves and conservancies in Kerio Valley, Mt Elgon, Lake Turkana, Lake Baringo and Lake Bogoria.
