Kenya: Gangster Gunned Down

Police in Ruiru yesterday shot dead a gangster who was in a group of four. The thugs had raided the home of a BAT senior staff at Membly in Ruiru and robbed him of cash and other valuables .

Ruiru acting police chief Joseph Arasa said the criminals, armed with guns and pistols, invaded the home of Michael Muchiri at 10.3 am. Muchiri is BAT's technical adviser.

He said robbed him of Sh200,000 , four mobile phones and a TV Set . They then robbed his wife Lucy Njeri Njoroge of Sh1,200 and a wrist watch.

Arasa said the police arrived as the thugs were loading their loot into a vehicle. On seeing the police, the gangsters opened fire but one of them was killed.

Arasa said Muchiri's car was recovered and and another one that was used by the gang. The officers also recovered the dismantled TV Set , a pistol with 38 bullets and a wrist watch.

The police boss said his men had thrown a dragnet in the area in a spirited bid to apprehend the run away suspects . He appealed to members of the public to supplement police efforts to nab the suspects. Apart from being tied with ropes, the victims were not injured.
