Kenya: Kitui Elder Arrested for Defiling Child

A Kitui village headman was yesterday arrested for allegedly defiling a standard four pupil in Museve village. Museve assistant chief John Munyoki said the man lured the girl to his house where he defiled her.

Munyoki said the elder was caught in the act by a shamba boy from a neighbouring homestead. The suspect allegedly tried to buy the boy's silence with Sh300.

The boy turned down the offer and alerted members of the public forcing the suspect to flee. He was however caught hiding in a house belonging to another headman and handed over to the police. The girl, a daughter of a mentally sick woman, said the man has defiled her before.
