In the absence of 2010 champions Mwamba, Ugandan teams have a reason to smile ahead of the revived Makerere 10s this weekend, writes Felix Eupal.
The tournament didn't take place last year due to lack of sponsorship but with Kampala Sun and Nile Breweries on board, all is set for an action-packed weekend at Makerere University rugby grounds.
In the last time out, the Kenyan side, who had won the tournament in 2007, defeated Heathens in the semis before thrashing Kobs 38-7 in the final. However, Kenya Cup commitments have denied them a chance to defend the title.
Already registered are Impis, Kobs, Heathens, Buffaloes, Pirates, Rhinos, Mongers and Summerkamp. Upcountry teams include Gulu, Mbarara, Mbale and Lira while the national teams of Rwanda and Burundi have confirmed participation.
