Kenya: Lawmakers Cause Us Suffering - Separatist Group Leader

Mombasa Republican Council chairman Omar Mwamnwadzi on Wednesday accused Coast MPs of being behind their woes.

This comes a day after Makadara MP Mike Sonko also accused the MPs of frustrating his efforts to secure the release of the MRC leaders on bond.

Mwamnwadzi said coast politicians misuse the youths in the region when they want to achieve their selfish goals but abandon them when in need.

"These issues have been incited by politicians. Coast politicians cannot do their politics without incorporating some things in it," said Mwamnwadzi in the basement cells of the Mombasa law courts.

"Who do you want to vote for you if you keep on dividing people?" posed Mwamnwadzi. He said no coast politician has visited them in prison yet they pretended to be supporting them during political rallies.

"Have you heard any politician has come to us? Have you heard we have discussed anything? When they heard that Mheshimiwa has come, it was like he had spoilt their plans," said Mwamnwadzi.

He told Sonko not to be cowed by the system, which he said is trying to frustrate him to abandon his quest to secure their release.

"Let's look for justice. Let's not engage in politics," he told Sonko. He said he has known the MP ever since he was a little boy in Kwale.

He said he was with Sonko's father and politician Gideon Chokwe when they were in the Democratic Party. "He has come because he is human," he said.
