Namibia: Murder Suspect Evades Arrest

A SUSPECT wanted by Police in connection with the murder of Alta Thirion (63) at her home in Keetmanshoop narrowly managed to evade arrest yesterday.

Thirion died in the intensive care unit of the Katutura Central Hospital on Wednesday after she had sustained a fractured skull during the brutal attack on Tuesday.

The suspect, who is known to the police, struck Thirion on the head with a blunt object and left her for dead on the kitchen floor before making off with a laptop computer and a cellphone.

An ambulance rushed Thirion to Windhoek, but she succumbed to the head injury a day later.

Police Deputy Commissioner Rudolf Isaak yesterday said the police had set a trap for the suspect at the home of a person who had bought the stolen cellphone from him.

However, the suspect ran away when he recognised one of the officers at the house. Isaak said it was just a matter of time before the police would arrest the suspect.

“We know him and we’ll soon arrest him,” he said.
