Kenya: A Grand Celebration of Algeria's National Day

Algerian nationals living in Kenya recently toasted the start of the revolution that led to their independence 50 years ago at Laico Regency in Nairobi.

Algerian ambassador Saad Maandi recounted his country's victory after years of struggle and pain that led to loss of one and a half million freedom fighters.

"With Kenya that has celebrated Mashujaa Day some days ago, my country shares the same history and the same struggle for liberty," he said.

Environment minister Chirau Ali Makwere hailed the Algerian heroes, saying they served as an encouragement to the Mau Mau freedom fighters of Kenya. He also thanked Algeria for continuously offering full university scholarships to Kenyan students.

Also in attendance were former Nairobi Town Clerk Philip Kisia, former Voi MP Mwandawiro Mghanga and Sobhi Dahan, the General Manager at Laico Regency.
