South Africa: Mpumalanga MEC for Finance Pinky Phosa Hosted Senior Citizens

More than 200 senior citizens from Daggakraal, Dr Pixley Ka Isaka Seme Municipality were treated to an early Christmas. MEC for Finance, Mrs Pinky Phosa presented the grannies with blankets and cosmetics during the event which took place at Sinqobile Community Hall.

The event was aimed to celebrate the contribution that the senior citizen makes in holding the fort at home, caring for children and supporting their families. In her address MEC Phosa said: "this event is our contribution to ensuring optimal participation of local community in caring for their senior citizens. It is our thankful expression to the senior citizens, who carried and cared for many generations from unjust period through the struggle for freedom to the current democratic dispensation", she said.

Government departments and agencies shared information and tips with the grannies on home safety, access to and advises on social grants. Other services that were provided include health screening for all invited citizens.
