Kenya: 10 Students Are Detained

TEN students who are facing arson charges have been remanded at the Murang'a juvenile home after they were denied bond by a Kerugoya court.

Rachel Wakuthii, Rosemary Wanja, Purity Wairimu, Vanilla Njeri, Joyce Wandia, Vivia Wangu, Evaline Wairimu, Susan Wamaitha, Esha Abdalla Orma and Linet Wambui denied the charges before senior principal magistrate Teresiah Ngugi.

They denied they maliciously damaged Kagumo Girls School's eight double-deckers, 86 pieces of windows panes, 10 florescent tube lights and their frames and a gate, all valued at Sh351,500.

Wakuthii denied she was found with two litres of petrol on October 28,which she inteded to use to burn the school. The students sobbed when they were denied bail after prosecutor Sammy Mbarani termed them as "dangerous and unfit to be in the society". The case will be heard on November 14.
