South Africa: Govt Sends Condolences to President, People of Ghana

Pretoria — On behalf of the Government and the people of South Africa, the Department of International Relations and Cooperation would like to extend its heartfelt condolences to the Government and the people of Ghana following the collapse of the multi-storey department store, Melcom, in Accra, Ghana.

South Africa mourns the loss of lives during this unfortunate incident.

"Our hearts go out to the family and friends of the deceased and those that were injured, and we wish to express our solidarity to the Government and the people of Ghana during this difficult time of mourning," the department said.

South Africa maintains excellent bilateral relations with Ghana, as was illustrated during the High Level visit to Ghana led by the Deputy President Kgalema Motlanthe in April 2012.

The investigation into the tragedy as instructed by President John Dramani Mahama will bring closure to those families who have lost their loved ones in the line of duty.

My thoughts and prayers go out to you and your family. I am so sorry to hear about your loss and I would like to offer you my condolences. I can understand your frustrations and pains in your heart with this world and why we should have hope because I used to feel the same way. But keep in mind that God is always there to keep us going and He will never leave us especially in times like this.
