Nigeria: Flood - FG Starts Distribution of Free Grains Wednesday

The Federal Government will soon start the distribution of free grains to farmers affected by recent flood across the country, minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Akinwumi Adesina, has said.

The minister, who made this known during the an emergency meeting with 36 state commissioners of agriculture from across the country Friday in Abuja said the release of grains from the strategic grains reserve will start on the Wednesday the 14.

The minister allayed fears of a food crisis saying the stories about the crops farmers lost to the flood were exaggerated.

Director Procurement in the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, Sony Echono said the grains distribution will be hitch-free as he was already in talks with the transporters that will convey the grains to affected areas.
