Tunisia: Enforcing Decree N°116, Focus of President Marzouki's Meeting With Media Representatives

Carthage — President of the Republic Moncef Marzouki held, on Saturday afternoon, a working session with chairmen and directors of public and private media institutions, and representatives of the Tunisian journalists' unions.

The session turned on the implementation of Decree N°116 on the creation of an independent higher audiovisual communication authority, a communiqué of the Presidency of the Republic reads.

Representatives of the profession called for the need to fill in the judicial vacuum the sector is living through, by means of a consensus on the enforcement of Decree N°116, while taking into account those amendments brought to the articles that had been causes of conflicts, the same source adds.

Agreement was arrived at, on the occasion, to carry on consultations in the coming week to identify a comprehensive and amended vision of Decree N°116 that would be adopted unanimously, specifies the Presidency's communiqué.
