Eritrea: Health Institutions Under Renovation in Asmara to Be Relaunched in 2013 - Report

Asmara — The Ministry of Health indicated that health institutions in Asmara such as the hospitals in Edaga-Hamus and Beit-Mekae, as well as the clinic in Mai-Temenai which are under renovation would be relaunched in 2013.

Dr. Tesfai Solomon, head of the Ministry's branch in the Central region, explained that renovation of the health institutions has approached the stage of finalization, and that they have adequately been equipped with maternity and first-aid facilities with a view to lowering the current demand at Orotta National Referral Hospital.

He further pointed out that renovation of the Ophthalmic Hospital is due to be finalized within this year.

Meanwhile, the health institutions in the region are reportedly rendering regular immunization, community sensitization, first-aid, VCT and maternity services, in addition to the student-targeting outreach service they are providing regarding dental and ophthalmic care.

Reports indicate that around 700,000 out-patients obtained medical service in the region, and that 33 villages have fully become beneficiaries of latrines in line with the endeavors being exerted towards ensuring sustainable environmental hygiene.
