Hawassa — Some 16 health centers constructed in Sidama Zone of SNNP State went into operation, the zonal health department said.
Department Coordinator, Aklilu Yohannes told ENA that the facilities were part of 29 health centre building projects launched in the zone at a cost of 56 million birr.
According to him, the facilities enable to expand access of health services and reduce infant and maternal mortality.
The coordinator said the facilities have benefited over 475,000 people and raise the health coverage to 91 from 86 per cent previously.
Aklilu said efforts are underway to finalize the construction of the remaining 13 health centres until the end of December.
Similarly, the zone has deployed over 1,000 health extension workers in over 480 health posts with a view to realizing the health policy.
