Nigeria: Akpabio Becomes Scrabble Grand Patron

Executive governor of Akwa-Ibom state, Godswill Obot Akpabio, will on November 18, 2012 at the Nicon Luxury hotel in Abuja be honoured with the Grand Patron of the Nigeria Scrabble Federation when the prestigious Club Championship will also round up.

According to the Secretary General, James Eakyns, "the governor who has been a pillar of support for the game in the country was deservedly chosen as the Grand Patron. The governor will personally be at the event."

It would be recalled that Akwa-Ibom state government funds the Godswill Akpabio Classic which has the same monetary prize with the world championship.

Akpabio will become the second Grand Patron of the Federation in view of the death of his own friend, the Hama Bachama, Asaph Zadok, who recently passed on to the great beyond. As part of the respect he has for the monarch, he ensured a minute silence was given at the last Classic in Uyo.
