The Second Conference of the African Nuclear Weapon-Free-Zone Treaty, the Treaty of Pelindaba, will be held this Monday and Tuesday at African Union Headquarters here in Addis Ababa (November 12th-13th).
The Conference will discuss the establishment of the African Commission on Nuclear Energy (AFCONE) and other related issues.
The Pelindaba Treaty entered into force on July 15th, 2009. It prohibits the search, development, manufacture, stockpiling, acquisition, testing, possession or stationing of any nuclear explosive devices in the territories of the signatories as well as the dumping of any radioactive waste.
