Uganda: Huge Kenyan Presence Expected At MTN Marathon

KAMPALA - There is likely again to be a big Kenyan presence in the MTN Marathon.

"They are showing a lot of interest ahead of the event," said Uganda Athletics Federation secretary Beatrice Ayikoru on Saturday. Registration of individuals starts today and will end on November 21.

Uganda dominated the podium places of most races in the last event. Kenya, a global powerhouse in marathon, however still made its presence felt with a 1-2-3 finish the men's 42 kilometres.

Abraham Kiplimo and Viola Chemos had earlier in the day led Uganda to top five finishes in both the men and women's 10km races respectively.

Dorcus Inzikuru then won the women's 21km.

Kenya's Onesmus Serem topped the men's race followed by Rwanda's Robert Kajuga while Uganda's Jackson Kiprop was in third position. Uganda's Jane Suuto won the women's event.

Team registration started a week ago and ends this Friday. Registration is at the MTN Arena at Lugogo.
